About San Ramon

Los Fernandos School is located in the charming town of San Ramon, in north-central Nicaragua in the department of Matagalpa. San Ramon is a small town with a population of approximately 5,000 inhabitants, located 146 kilometers from the capital Managua, and 12 km from the departmental capital Matagalpa  . San Ramon is an attractive destination, tucked in the scenic mountains with a pleasant climate and friendly people. The organization of this small town is nationally recognized! Yet it is the tranquility and security that makes strolling through the streets in the afternoons or evenings such a pleasure. 

San Ramon offers many amenities, including two public parks, a baseball stadium, a small Catholic Church, two internet cafes/restaurants, a tasteful hotel, and many opportunities for sustainable tourism/ecotourism in the area. Several government institutions, mayor's office, police station, a firehouse, a gas station, and several national and international non governmental organizations working on socioeconomic development projects are all in operation in this small town. Coffee, a principle export of Nicaragua and specifically from the region, is cultivated in the surrounding hill- and mountain- farms. There are many other local farms producing 'granos basicos', or beans and corn.  

Getting there!

Arriving froom the airport in Managua requires about 2.5 hours in a private vehicle, or about 2.5 hours on a public bus. Please contact us if you would like to arrange transportation from the Managua airport.
